The Ashburton District Council will reconsider the relocation of the East Street water sculpture at the open Council meeting on 15 August, after five Councillors signed a Notice of Motion to revoke the Council decision on 27 June to move the sculpture to the Ashburton Domain.
Councillors Neil Brown, Russell Ellis, Leen Braam, Mark Malcolm and Stuart Wilson have written to Chief Executive Hamish Riach requesting that the Council revoke its decision.
A Notice of Motion to overturn all or parts of a previous council resolution must be signed by no less than a third of elected members. In this case, five councillors needed to sign the motion.
Given the Notice of Motion specifically refers the matter to the 15 August Council meeting, the draft Ashburton Domain Development Plan will now be considered by the Service Delivery Committee in open meeting on 25 July, with a recommendation to go to the full Council meeting on 15 August. This will enable the draft Development Plan to reflect consideration of the location of the East Street water sculpture before commencing public consultation on the overall Plan.
The meeting will be live-streamed on the Council Facebook page and YouTube channel.
