The Ashburton District Council has
removed the precautionary boil water notice for the Mt Somers water supply, with
tests showing that the quality of the water has returned to normal.
Residents connected to the scheme are
no longer required to boil their drinking water and can consume it as normal.
The scheme was placed on a precautionary notice yesterday evening (3 September)
after the Council detected high levels of turbidity in the water which was
likely to have been caused by the heavy rainfall experienced the previous
The turbidity levels in the water
have reduced and Council is satisfied that the water is being effectively
Turbidity is the term used to
describe microscopic particles in water. Although the scheme’s treatment
equipment was working correctly, turbidity can make it difficult for the equipment
to effectively treat the water.
