Ashburton District Council has today announced the appointment of Des Millar Construction to build the temporary Civil Defence headquarters.

Council received 5 tenders through a selected tender list process, after design and plans for a relocatable building had been completed by Blue Print Architectural Services.

Mayor Donna Favel says it is important that this work is completed as soon as possible to provide Council with a Civil Defence headquarters that meets the IL4 standards.

"It is pleasing for the project to reach this milestone. While it is a temporary measure until the new Administration and Library Building is completed, this will ensure that Council has an operational Civil Defence headquarters in the meantime," she said. "By moving meeting room space into this temporary location, work will progress on clearing the former County Council building to allow for the Administration and Library project to proceed as quickly as possible."

The temporary Civil Defence headquarters will be located at 137 Havelock Street, where the old villa building formerly sat. The building is expected to be completed by December 2018. Once the Administration and Library Building is completed Council will consider options to sell or re-use the temporary Civil Defence headquarters.
