Mt Somers residents will need to be extra vigilant with their water use from today (Tuesday 14 February) as Ashburton District Council upgrades their water restriction to Level Two.
The Level Two water restriction allows residents to use a hose on alternate days between the hours of 6.00pm and midnight, with properties on Pattons Road starting on even dates and all others on odd dates. The restriction will be in place until further advised.
"The water level at the intake gallery has dropped significantly in recent days, and this has prompted us to move to a tighter water restriction that will help manage Mt Somers' water through the remainder of summer," Council Assets Manager Andrew Guthrie says.
Mt Somers had been on a Level One water restriction since December 2016 when Council implemented the restriction across all towns on Council-supplied water schemes not already on a restriction.
"We are pleased to see residents making an active effort to conserve water across the district, and appreciate the Mt Somers community continuing to work with us in managing their water wisely," he adds.
Residents in Ashburton, Hakatere, Methven, Rakaia, Chertsey, Fairton and Hinds will remain on a Level One water restriction, while Mayfield, Dromore, Montalto and Methven Springfield will also remain on their respective restrictions until further notice.
