Ashburton District Council has now lifted the precautionary boil water notice in place for the Mt Somers water supply.

The quality of the Mt Somers water has returned to normal and no contamination has been detected, after monitoring equipment at the facility detected high turbidity – or cloudiness in the water on Tuesday 19 September.

High turbidity lowers the effectiveness of the equipment used to treat water, and as a precaution, Council issued a boil water notice.

The Montalto water supply was also issued a precautionary boil water notice on 19 September, but this notice will remain in place until further advised.

Montalto residents should continue boiling their water for at least three minutes before consumption, for use in food preparation or for hygiene purposes.

High rainfall is likely to have caused the turbidity levels to increase.
