The Ashburton District Council advises
that a precautionary boil water notice has been issued for the Mt Somers water
supply, effective immediately, after the monitoring equipment detected high
levels of turbidity in the water, likely to have been caused by the heavy
rainfall experienced overnight and this morning.
Residents connected to this scheme
should boil their drinking water, water used in food preparation, and for
hygiene purposes for at least one minute before consuming.
While the treatment plant equipment
is operating normally, turbidity (otherwise described as cloudiness) causes the
equipment to be less effective. The Council is issuing the boil water notice as
a precaution until the quality of the water returns to normal.
Medical assistance should be sought
if you experience symptoms such as nausea, diarrhoea, cramps, vomiting or fever
after consuming any of the water.
The boil water notice will remain in
place until further advised by Council.
