Ashburton District Council advises
that a boil water notice has been issued for the Montalto water supply,
Residents connected to this
scheme should boil their drinking water, and water used in food preparation and
for hygiene purposes for at least three minutes before consumption, after a
routine water sample from the supply returned a positive reading for E.coli
Medical assistance should be
sought if you experience symptoms such as nausea, diarrhoea, cramps, vomiting
or fever after consuming any of the water.
Council will continue to
monitor the water supply closely, and carry out daily tests. Three consecutive
days of negative tests for E.coli must be achieved before a boil water notice
can be lifted.
The turbidity levels
(cloudiness) in the water are also high, which is likely to have been caused by
the rainfall experienced yesterday and today.
The boil water notice will
remain in place until further advised by Council.
