Young people with a passion for empowering other youth and who want to provide a voice for young people in the district are being encouraged to apply for the 2019 Ashburton Youth Council.
Applications are now open until 21 December 2018 for young people aged between 15 and 24.
Ashburton Youth Council Co-Chair, Artem Kravchenko says the Youth Council is a place for young people to make a positive contribution to their community and opens them up to amazing opportunities.
"Representing young people in our district, we've had to chance to organise activities and events such as Bite Nite 2.0 and free barbeques at the chess board; support other youth organisations and raise money for charities; interact with members of the government and local government; and make submissions on Council documents to ensure the interests of young people are heard."
Artem's fellow Co-Chair, Tom Collis agrees; "You're able to try new things or take a lead on issues or activities that interest you. AYC is a place for you to make a real difference in the community and develop your skills. If you want to have access to amazing opportunities, then I really encourage you to get your application in."
The Ashburton Youth Council is a space to address issues affecting young people in the community, that not only provides a voice for youth, but is also a place for diverse personalities and perspectives to come together and work towards making the district an even greater place for young people to live.
"We're really proud of what AYC has achieved this year, namely, raising $1000.00 for the Mid Canterbury Boxing Academy and bringing back the incredible Bite Nite event that saw Jamie McDell headline the show in September. We hope the next year of Youth Councillors will continue the great work," Artem adds.
Application forms are available here. You can find more information about AYC online and keep up with their latest news and activities on their Facebook page.
Applications close 5pm Friday 21 December, 2018.
