Local residents can now have the latest Ashburton District Council updates in the palm of their hand, thanks to a new app, Antenno.
From boil water notices and road closures to water restrictions and rubbish and recycling updates, Antenno delivers useful notifications to peoples' phones about places they care about.
The app is available to download free from the App Store and Google play, and does not require any personal information or log in details.
"Ashburton District Council is very pleased to offer Antenno to the community. The app is easy to use and is the way to get all of the latest alerts from Council about specific issues that affect you," Council Community Relations Manager Vincie Billante says.
Antenno works by sending push notifications to users' phones or other smart devices when a Council activity has or will affect an area inside the district that a person cares about.
"These places might be your home, work, school or your parents' house. Simply enter the places you want to be kept informed of and Antenno will let you know when something is happening in those areas.
"In our tech-savvy world, more and more people are turning to their smart phones to stay informed and in touch. Antenno will help more people keep up-to-date, and in turn, help those people share the message with their friends and family, as we understand that not everyone has access to a smart phone."
Antenno will be used in conjunction with Council's other communication tools including Facebook, the website and traditional advertising.
To learn more about Antenno, see the Council website or visit the Council tent at the Ashburton A & P Show on 27 and 28 October 2017.
