Ashburton is now officially a motorhome friendly town, following the installation of a new motorhome waste disposal unit on East Street.
New Zealand Motor Caravan Association (NZMCA) Resource Management Assistant Garry Green presented a certificate and signage to Council acknowledging Ashburton’s new status at today’s Council Meeting.
“We are proud to be identified as a motorhome friendly town. The new waste disposal unit is easily accessible with close proximity to other services and is a fantastic facility for travellers and locals alike,” Service Delivery Group Manager Neil McCann says.
The Motorhome Friendly certificate presented to Council brings Ashburton into a network of 40 other towns around New Zealand deemed welcome for motorhome users. NZMCA developed the scheme to offer significant economic benefits to participating towns, and assure association members of towns’ openness for motorhomes and caravans.
Ashburton’s previous waste disposal site in Tinwald will be closed due to accessibility and safety concerns. The new site is located on East Street, opposite the Mobil Service Station.
The new waste disposal site has been operative since August 2016.
