Nominations for the 2017 Ashburton Youth Council are now open and young people aged between 15 and 24 years of age are encouraged to apply.
Youth Councillor Angela Naui says young people with a passion for issues affecting youth and who want to make a positive contribution to the community should put their name forward.
"Ashburton Youth Council is a space to address issues affecting young people in the community. It provides a voice for our concerns and a place for diverse personalities and perspectives to come together and work towards making our district an even greater place for young people to live."
"Being part of Youth Council is also a wonderful way to learn about Local Government and allows you to work with some inspiring organisations and other young people," she adds.
Ashburton Youth Council has achieved many outcomes in the last year and is looking forward to continuing their fantastic work with new councillors.
"We have been doing great things in the last 12 months such as developing our Weird and Wonderful Ways to Waste Time map in collaboration with Crispin Design and Think First, and running activities at Race Relations Day. We are really excited to keep this momentum going and would love to see the fresh ideas prospective new youth councillors could bring."
Nominations close 21 October 2016. For more information or to apply, visit the Ashburton Youth Council Facebook page or fill out an application form here.
