Ashburton District Council has been helping with the earthquake relief in Hurunui this week as work continues to assist communities affected by Mondays 7.8 magnitude earthquake.

Four Council staff were deployed to Hurunui Emergency Operations Centre on Wednesday 16 November to help in operational and management roles.

“The response team includes staff for the Operations Centre in Amberley and a Building Official who has been undertaking building inspections around Hurunui District,” Acting Environmental Services Group Manager Ian Hyde says.

“We intend to continue providing staff to help for a least another week and possibly two if needed, while ensuring Council operations here continue as normal.”

Ashburton is one of a number of Councils who have sent emergency trained staff to support the earthquake relief in Hurunui.
