Ashburton District Council adopts policies and bylaws

Ashburton District Council has adopted eight bylaws and three policies at its last Council Meeting for the term today before the Local Government elections in October.

The policies and bylaws are the Brothel Location Bylaw; Dog Control Bylaw and Policy; Explanatory Bylaw; Keeping of Animals, Bees and Poultry Bylaw; Mobile Shops, Stalls and Hawkers Bylaw; Open Spaces Bylaw; Smokefree Outdoor Areas Policy; Wastewater Drainage Bylaw; Water Supply Bylaw; and Procurement Policy.

Community consultation for all policies and bylaws - with the exception of the Procurement Policy, took place during July and August 2016.Submissions were considered by the Policy and Bylaw Subcommittee before Council adopted the reviewed policies and bylaws on Thursday 22 September.

Some of the changes to the bylaws and policies include a blanket permission to allow drones and model aeroplanes to fly within Council’s open spaces, extending smokefree outdoor areas to include Council sponsored events and areas outside entrances and exits to Council buildings, and including specific areas of Argyle Park as dog exercise areas.

The adopted policies and bylaws are available online or from the Council office on Baring Square West.
