Since late last week contractors have been out and about getting Ashburton District's weed problem under control.
A combination of weather conditions and timing of the holiday period meant the weeds got away on the contractor responsible for the district's weed and vegetation management.
Contracts Manager Brian Fauth says work is now well underway removing weeds which have made an unwelcome appearance around the district's 220kms of footpaths, kerb and channel, as well as traffic islands and various other public space areas.
"We are aware of the situation and the contractor is working hard to get it sorted. The weather we've been having seems to be conducive to some weeds growing a lot over the last couple of weeks."
Mr Fauth says if people are concerned and would prefer the contractor does not spray outside their property could they please let Council know and the contractor will be notified.
