District Council is working to reduce the number of weeds growing in public
spaces throughout the district under the spring weed control programme.
contractor, Fulton Hogan began spraying weeds along roadside kerb and channels,
traffic islands and median strips in towns around the district last week and
will continue working for the next few weeks.
Delivery Group Manager Neil McCann says the combined spring showers and warmer
weather has encouraged the rapid growth in weeds during the last month.
Hogan completed the last round of spraying a few months ago, but with summer
now almost upon us, there is a lot of work to be done to keep the weeds under
control. This programme will help ensure the district looks clean and kept well
McCann says if people are concerned and would prefer the contractor does not
