Aqua Board coming to EA Networks Centre

Grab your togs and have your balancing skills ready – the South Island’s first Aqua Board class is coming to Ashburton and it’s set to make waves at the EA Networks Centre.

Visitors to the Centre will be able to push their traditional workouts to new heights in the class, atop a floating board in the middle of a pool, and for one hour on 20 August, they’ll be able to try Aqua Board for free.

Sports Facility Manager Steven Prescott says the Aqua Board class will be a full body workout suitable for people of all fitness levels.

“Whether you’re looking to improve your fitness or shake things up with a new workout, the Aqua Board class will have something for everyone. Come along at any time during the free trial hour from 7.00pm to 8.00pm and test your ability to stay upright on the boards while working up a sweat.”

Aqua Board involves a mixture of high intensity and yoga-inspired exercises. Unlike traditional bodyweight workouts on dry land, participants have to complete the exercises while also balancing their weight on the boards. This targets core and stabilising muscles which helps with posture, balance and coordination.

Although quite popular across Europe and in parts of North America, Aqua Board is relatively new to New Zealand. Mr Prescott says the free trial will give locals the chance to see if Aqua Board is the class for them.

“Aqua Board is unlike any class we have at the Centre and we are very proud that we will be the first in the South Island, and in fact one of the first facilities in the whole country to have it on offer. Make sure you take advantage of this free trial – Aqua Board could be the exercise that pushes you further or kick starts your fitness journey.”

Swimwear brand, Speedo will be at the trial evening displaying their range of togs that are specially designed for Aqua Board classes.

Entry into the pool to take part in the trial will be free to non-EA Networks Centre members. Members and non-members will not be charged to participate. A timetable for the class will be revealed on the evening.
