Applications for the 2018 Ashburton Youth Council are now open, and young people aged between 15 and 24 years of age are encouraged to apply.
Ashburton Youth Council Chairperson Alyce Lysaght says young people with a passion for issues affecting youth and who want to make a positive contribution to their community should put their name forward.
"The Ashburton Youth Council is a space to address issues affecting young people in the community. It provides a voice for youth, as well as a place for diverse personalities and perspectives to come together and work towards making our district an even greater place for young people to live.
"This past year, we've made submissions on Ashburton District Council draft policies and bylaws, organised the hugely successful Bite Nite community event, raised money for CanTeen through the Youth Council verses District Council Debate and helped support a range of youth-related causes and activities such as Student Volunteer Week.
"We're looking to build on these achievements and go ever further next year, and would love to see more ideas, skill-sets and faces around the table to help us get there.
"Giving back to the community is not the only benefit of being a part of the Youth Council. It's a great way to grow your skills, develop your interests, improve your network, push your boundaries and learn some amazing things that you can take with you through life. AYC offers many incredible opportunities, and I'd encourage any interested young person to put their name down."
Applications for the 2018 Ashburton Youth Council close Thursday 30 November. Application forms are available here.
