Applications for Ashburton District Council's annual Community Grant and School Holiday Programme Grant open today.

Last year, Community Grants assisted 18 groups with a range of projects, including building a playground, restoring an unused tennis court, renovating cricket pitches, running a garden competition and buying gymnastics equipment.

Community Grants are for community organisations undertaking projects that contribute to the wellbeing of the community. There is $50,000 available to allocate, with maximum individual grants of $5000.

The School Holiday Programme Grant is for organisations providing school holiday programmes, preferably for children aged 5 to 14. There is $5000 available to distribute.

Last year, seven groups received funding to provide school holiday programmes involving activities such as sports, crafts and baking.

Project Officer Rachael Boyd said, "The Council is always pleased to be able to assist the many worthy projects in our community - whether it's fixing a playcentre's sandpit, maintaining a motorcycle track or running seminars."
