Next month, Ashburton is holding a new event specially designed to bring employers and jobseekers together to connect, train and gain valuable insight from industry professionals.
The Ashburton Employment Exchange is much more than a traditional employment expo. It's intent is to help people who may have found it difficult entering the workforce or who wish to move their career in another direction to connect with local employers, with the aim to secure work experience or a permanent position.
Unlike expos you may have been to in the past, this event has a special focus on both jobseekers and employers, with targeted training and seminars designed for both groups before they come together for networking opportunities. For instance, employers who are looking for additional people to join their teams will gain insight into the wider range of jobseekers in the community and the funding support programmes that employers can take advantage of to help fill positions and grow their operations.
There will also be an employment law and visa update to ensure employers have the latest information on what is happening in this space.
The Ashburton Employment Exchange has been developed by the Council in partnership with a number of supporting organisations, including the Christchurch Employers' Chamber of Commerce, Ministry of Social Development, Immigration NZ, Department of Corrections and local businesses. The value of this exchange lies not only in the wealth of useful information and insights on hand, but also in it's understanding of our local labour situation of extremely low unemployment. The beauty of this exchange is that it will help to expose the opportunities and potential that Ashburton has and bring these people together to make productive connections. The exchange will touch on things such as building a multicultural workforce, practical advice for seeking employment and retaining it, and the different ways employers can give job-seekers a go.Whether you are looking to make a career change or want to bring new talent to your business that will also benefit the community, the Ashburton Employment Exchange will have something for you. It's happening at the Ashburton Club & MSA on Havelock Street, Friday 20 September.Register your attendance today by visiting ashburtondc.govt.nz/aee.
