A and P Show

This week, a great Ashburton attraction rolls around for another year – the Ashburton A & P Show. It’s an occasion that’s high up in our community’s calendar and this year is sure to be another fantastic event.

For many, the A & P Show is a great chance to get out with the family and enjoy some rides, watch the animal judging and check out some of the attractions on show. It’s also a good opportunity to come and talk to the Council and see what important issues are happening in the community that could affect you. The Council will have a tent set up at the show, and I’d encourage you to drop by for a quick chat.

Inside the tent, we’ll be discussing the draft Surface Water Strategy that’s now open for consultation. This strategy sets out our goals moving forward for the surface water in our district, which includes lakes, rivers, wetlands, stormwater and water races. It’s an important piece of work that will affect our district for years to come. Talk to some of our staff who will be there about any questions you might have about this strategy and provide your feedback on the proposed plans.

If you’re looking for ways of reducing your waste or not sure what you should do with certain materials, our waste education consultants from Eco Educate will be in the tent to offer their advice. I’m constantly impressed with the level of commitment people in our community have for keeping our town tidy and being conscious of our environment, and it’s fitting that people are looking at more ways to make other positive impacts on our environment through our waste practices.

There’ll also be some great information about our services and facilities available. And if all that wasn’t enough, I hear there’ll be a cool, delicious treat available in the tent, but you’ll have to pop by to see what it is!

I’ll be at the show as well for a book reading with the kids of ‘Ace - A Horsey Tail of Courage’ by the Bayleys site. Quite fitting for an A & P Show! See you at the show this Friday and Saturday.
