Code of Conduct

Council is required under the Local Government Act 2002 to adopt a Code of Conduct for elected members. The Code of Conduct sets out the understandings and expectations of the manner in which elected members conduct themselves while acting in their capacity of an elected member.

Local Governance Statement

Council is required under the Local Government Act to prepare and make publicly available, a Local Governance Statement.

The Local Governance Statement is a collection of information about the processes that Council uses to engage with the residents of Ashburton district. It also outlines how Council makes decisions and how the citizens of the district can influence those processes.

Standing Orders

Standing Orders apply to all meetings include committees and sub-committees and associated organisations.

Canterbury Triennial Agreement

All local authorities within a region (in our case Canterbury) are required to enter into an agreement at least every 3 years that details their commitment to work effectively together.

The agreement focuses on communication, collaboration and co-ordination.

The councils of Canterbury work together in a wide variety of ways and the triennial agreement ensures this is done in a spirit of cooperation and openness.

Delegations Manual

Council operates under a range of legislation that provides territorial authorities with specific powers, functions and duties. The Delegations Manual defines and authorises the scope of Council's delegations to committees, the Chief Executive, and the Chief Executive's delegations to other members of the leadership team and staff positions.
