Plan Records
The water services department has access to Council’s engineering records. If you need to find out more about the location of the water or sewer connection to your property please contact the department for assistance. If we have the details on file we can provide the information reasonably quickly.
New Connections
Council administers all new connections to its various utility assets. If you need a new water, sewer or stormwater connection then you are required to make application to the department. Some schemes have reached capacity or the network is limited and can not provide for property connections. Please refer to the table below for details for the availability of the networks.

Fees and Charges
New Connection Fees
Applications for new connections incur an Application and Inspection Fee and water connections also incur a Main Tapping Fee.
Approved contractors are permitted to undertake service connection construction. The scope of the work includes all construction work from the property boundary up to and including connection to the council main* (or channel for stormwater connections)
Note-: Due to the requirement to protect the integrity of public water supplies, the physical work associated with live tapping of watermains shall continue to be undertaken by council’s maintenance contractor. The cost of this work is covered by the main tapping fee.

Development Contribution
A Development Contribution is a contribution towards future upgrading of the water supply and wastewater schemes treatment facilities. These are generally only payable at times of subdivision when new lots are created but may be applied for developments which impact on the schemes.
They are currently set for the Ashburton, Methven, Rakaia, Hinds, Fairton and Chertsey Water supplies, and the Ashburton and Methven Wastewater schemes.
