The Ashburton District Council provides refuse and recycling facilities at Ashburton and Rakaia, and kerbside refuse collection services to the urban Ashburton, Methven, Rakaia, Hinds, Mayfield, and Mt Somers.
Resource Recovery Parks
Resource Recovery parks operate at Ashburton and Rakaia and an inert material and greenwaste drop-off facility operates at Methven. The Ashburton Resource Recovery Park also has a dedicated Eco Education Centre that organizes a variety of educational activities.

Monday 10 am – 12pm
Wednesday 3.30 pm – 5.30 pm

Resource Recovery Parks are closed on: New Years Day, Waitangi Day, Easter Friday, Easter Monday, Anzac Day, Queens Birthday, Labour Day, Canterbury Anniversary Day, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Mayfield - Arundel Rakaia Gorge Rd (beside Mayfield Tavern)
Staveley - Behind the Hall
Hinds - Behind Hinds Tavern
Rangitata Huts - Wrens Road
Haketere Huts - River Road
Pendarves - Chertsey Kyle Road
South Rakaia Huts
The following items are accepted at the unmanned drop-off depots:
· Aluminium and tin/steel cans
· Flattened cardboard
· Glass containers (rinsed)
· All paper
Kerbside Collection
Ashburton, Methven, Rakaia, Hinds, Mount Somers and Mayfield use an official pre-paid, black bag system. These bags are sold in rolls of five.
Recycling in Ashburton, Methven, Hinds, Mount Somers and Mayfield are carried out using an official green recycling bin. Rakaia uses a two bag system. The black bag is for rubbish and the blue bag is for recycling. The blue bags are sold in rolls of five.
Additional recycling bins can be purchased from Ashburton District Council.
