Solid Waste

The Ashburton District Council provides recycling and residual waste disposal facilities at Ashburton and Rakaia, and kerbside refuse collection services to the urban areas of Ashburton, Methven Rakaia, Hinds, Mayfield, and Mt Somers.  Resource Recovery parks operate at Ashburton and Rakaia and an inert material and greenwaste drop-off facility operates at Methven.



Resource Recovery Park and drop-off facilities
Hours of Operation

Ashburton Resource Recovery Park
(Range Road, Ashburton)

Monday – Friday 8.00 am – 5.00 pm
Saturday 9.00 am – 5.00 pm
Sunday 1.00 pm – 5.00 pm
 


Rakaia Resource Recovery Park
(cnr West Town Belt and Rakaia Terrace)

Monday 10.00 am – noon
Wednesday 3.30 pm – 5.30 pm
Friday 2.00 pm – 4.00 pm
Saturday 9.00 am – 3.00 pm
 
Methven Greenwaste and Inorganic material drop off facility
(Vaughans Road)

Wednesday 2.00 pm – 4.00 pm
Sunday 12.00 noon – 4.00 pm
 

In Methven there is also facility to drop off household items for recycling
or reuse. This facility is located on the corner of Methven Chertsey Road
and Line Road and its operating hours are:

Friday - 2.00 pm – 4.00 pm
Saturday - 10.00 am – 12 noon
 

There are four unmanned recycling drop-off depots:

  • Willowby - Longbeach Rd, Willowby (beside the school)

  • Mt Somers - Hoods Rd, Mt Somers (behind Mt Somers Tavern

  • Methven - Cnr Methven Chertsey Rd and Line Rd

  • Mayfield - Arundel Rakaia Gorge Road (beside Mayfield Tavern)

The following items are accepted at the unmanned drop-off depots:

  • Aluminium and tin/steel cans,

  • Milk cartons (rinsed), egg cartons, flattened cardboard

  • Glass containers (rinsed)

  • All paper
