The Ashburton District Council supplies firewood logs when operations allow. Permits for firewood recovery following the completion of logging operations may also be issued. Processed firewood (split ready for burning) is available through various local merchants.
Firewood Permits
From time to time firewood permits will be made available to Ashburton District Council residents. Permit availability will be advertised in both the Guardian and the Courier newspapers and in the “Weekly Notice Board” part of this website. Wood is generally Radiata Pine that requires cutting and loading.
Permit holders will be required to meet minimum safety standards for chainsaw use. Permits will be granted for a maximum period of 30 days and will cost $75 (GST inclusive).
Firewood Logs
Loads of firewood logs can be purchased from the Ashburton District Council when harvesting operations allow supply. Radiata Pine firewood logs delivered within the Ashburton District cost;
Truck or Trailer (part load) $36/tonne (+GST)
Truck and Trailer (full load) $34/tonne (+GST)
The minimum load size is 10 tonnes. Parties purchasing logs will require a site suitable for unloading logs. A deposit is required to be paid prior to the delivery of logs:
10 tonne load - $300 deposit (GST inclusive)
15 tonne load - $400 deposit (GST inclusive)
25 tonne load - $750 deposit (GST inclusive)
