Firewood Logs

The Ashburton District Council supplies firewood when operations allow.  Firewood is available as loads of logs or from plantations during public firewood days.  Processed firewood (blocked & split) is available through various local merchants.

Public Firewood Days
After plantations have been harvested and good access becomes available, public firewood days are organised.  Public firewood days are advertised in both the Guardian and the Courier newspapers and in the “Weekly Notice Board” part of this website.  Wood is generally Radiata Pine that requires cutting and loading.

Safety Requirements: All chainsaws must have a safety mitt/guard or chain break fitted.  Chainsaw operators must wear safety boots, leg protection (chaps or chainsaw trousers), Grade 4 hearing protection and carry a first aid kit.  All people working adjacent to chainsaws are also required to have hearing protection.

A $20 charge is made per vehicle for access for the entire morning.  Only trailers and light trucks are admitted.
