Application for Resource Consent
Ashburton District Council has received the following applications for resource consents:
Applicant: Canterbury Regional Council (Operations Group)
Proposal: LUC07/0127 - To undertake construction of stopbank, planting of riverside areas and long term maintenance of these works. The stopbank is to be constructed between the South Branch of the Ashburton River and Mayfield Valetta Road. The proposed stopbank is to provide a 1 in 200 year flood protection standard for Tinwald from flooding from that portion of the South Branch of the Ashburton River. The proposed stopbank is not continuous, but traverses a length of 6.5 kilometres, and varies in height up to a maximum of 1.7m above existing ground level.
LUC07/0132 - To extract gravel from two sites within the bed of the South Branch of the Ashburton River, for the purposes of providing material for the construction of a stopbank on the true right bank of the South Branch of the Ashburton River. The total volume of gravel to be extracted is 40,000m3, over a period of 5 years.
Consents required: Land use consents for the construction, operation and maintenance of flood protection works, and to undertake earthworks and vegetation clearance in the bed and riparian margin of the South Branch of the Ashburton River.
Location: On the southern (true right) bank of the South Branch of Ashburton River, between the river and Mayfield Valetta Road, upstream of the Thompsons Track Bridge.
The following land is involved:
Lot 1 DP 300782, RS 30643, RS 31205, Lot 1 DP 301126, Lot 2 DP 361645, Lot 6 DP 346699, Pt Lot 6 DP 3935 and RS 41289, and unformed legal road. and
The bed of the South Branch of the Ashburton River upstream of the Thompsons Track Bridge on the true right bank of the South Branch of the Ashburton River

Any person may make a written submission to Ashburton District Council on the application. The submission must be in Form 13 which is available from Ashburton District Council or on-line.
Submissions must be received at the Council’s office at the above address (or PO Box 94 Ashburton) no later than 18 July 2008
