UPDATE

Some successful public meetings were held in Ashburton on 22nd April; Methven on 23 April and Rakaia on 29 April, to introduce the review project to the wider public.  Our thanks go out to all those who were able to come along and talk to us about their views on the key issues for the District.

Details of future meetings and updates on progress of the review, will be available on this web page, or look out for notices in the District Diary, The Guardian, The Courier, Rakaia News and Snowfed.

WHAT IS THE DISTRICT PLAN REVIEW?

Under the Resource Management Act, Ashburton District Council is required to undertake a comprehensive review of the Ashburton District Plan.

The Ashburton District Plan sets a framework for the development and management of resources in the District.  It contains objectives and policies for development; zones (residential, rural, business, etc); and rules for what activities are permitted to occur in each zone.  The District Plan has a very strong influence over all activities which occur in the District and indeed can affect the life and growth of the area.

The review process will consider whether the controls in the District Plan are still appropriate and whether there is a need to change them to reflect the changing needs of the District.  Thus the review of the District Plan is an important and exciting process.
