RAPID Numbering

RAPID, or Rural Address Property Identification, serves as the address for properties and/or buildings in rural areas.

RAPID numbering assists in finding a property/ building and is particularly important for emergency services such as police, ambulance, the fire department and Civil Defence.  It may also be required by Telecom and the power authority prior to connection.

To apply for a RAPID number please complete the application form, which is also available at the Council office.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I have more than one RAPID Number?

Yes, if you have more than one entranceway to your property or there are multiple dwellings accessed off the same entranceway e.g. workers accommodation.

Having a RAPID number for each entranceway will assist emergency services or anyone that requires access to a building on a frequent basis.

 How are RAPID numbers allocated?

A RAPID number is based on the distance an entrance to a property/ building is along a road. The distance is measured in metres from the start of the road to the centre of the entry point. The final measurement is rounded to a whole number and the last digit removed.

For example, a driveway 1024 metres from the start of a road is rounded to 1020 and therefore has a RAPID number of 102. Numbers on the right hand side are even and those on the left are odd.

What happens if I subdivide or move?

If you are subdividing, new RAPID numbers will only be required for the new entranceways to the new lots. Any existing entranceways retain their number.

If you are moving, you cannot take your number with you. As the entranceway reflects the distance along a road, if you move then you need a new RAPID number.

What happens if my number goes missing or is destroyed?

If you require a replacement plate, please download and complete the Application form above.

Will having a RAPID number affect my address?

RAPID numbers should be used in your postal address in the same way as an urban number e.g. 123 Thompsons Track.
