Summary

Council resolved to adopt decisions and recommendations on the proposed District Plan on 31 October 2012. (Read The Media Release). These decisions and recommendations were released to the public on 14 November 2012. View the Public Notice associated with release of decisions.

Current Status

The Ashburton District Plan is now referred to as the "Partly Operative Proposed District Plan" and Council has released its decisions on submissions on the Plan. A number of appeals have been recieved in relation to those decisions and these are discussed below.

How To Search For Your Submission Decisions

There are two parts to the District Plan submission decisions found on the right hand links of this page:

1) Plan Section Text is the wording of the Plan document as amended by the decisions and associated maps. The content follows the same structure as the Plan published in 2010.

All of the original text is included but where it has been changed, deleted text has been struck through and additional text underlined. For example:

“...means a ~~residential~~ building for residential activities”

2) Decision Reports provide a rationale for the decision on each submission point made. Decisions are grouped by Plan Section and also include recommendations which have been made by commissioner.

Part 2 of each decision report outlines the submissions and Part 3 summarises the submissions associated with that report.

Hearings History

The Proposed District Plan was publicly notified on 21 April 2010 and received over 650 submissions.

On 20 October 2010, a summary of the submissions was released and this allowed people with an interest to make further submissions over a 3 week period. Hearings on these submissions began on 23 February and provided the opportunity for submitters to present their submission to Council.

Hearings were predominantly before a Hearings Panel formed of Elected Members and in some cases an independent commissioner.
