Planning provides a framework for managing the future use and development of land while ensuring the protection of resources for future generations. This is achieved through the District Plan and other responsibilities of the Planning team at Ashburton District Council.

District Plan

The Planning Department of the Council is also responsible for -
- monitoring the effects of activities on the environment
- taking enforcement action including prosecution where the use or development of land is undertaken illegally
