Our Archives

Ashburton District Council is the custodian of records generated by the Ashburton Borough Council and the Ashburton County Council. These records date back to the 1870s up to the amalgamation of the two councils.

Our records are available for viewing during Council office hours.

As facilities for viewing are limited, please contact our Archives Officer on (03) 307 7718 one business day or more before you would like to view them.

Council staff can provide photocopies of requested material with a set fee.

Note: Access to some of ADC’s archival material are restricted in order to protect personal, confidential or commercially sensitive information and because of the age and fragility of some of the material.

Historical Photographs

Council does not store photographs but the Ashburton Library and Ashburton Museum are good sources of information.
