Statistics NZ now visiting Ashburton District

Friday 9 June, 2017

Ashburton District will play host to Statistics New Zealand staff from today, as they begin preparing information for the 2018 Census.

Statistics NZ will be checking 1.8 million addresses across the country to ensure their records are on track for the census, and residents in Ashburton District are being advised not to be alarmed if they see staff members in their neighbourhood.

Council Community Relations Manager Vincie Billante says the staff will be wearing Statistics NZ uniforms and will be carrying identification if anyone is unsure of who they are.

“The next census will take place in March next year, and the work carried out in the district from today will simply check that address records are correct. We’ve been informed that the work for this will take place in most urban parts of the district, and there should be minimal contact with residents.

“Staff may contact residents if they need to check a particular detail about an address,” she adds.

Statistics NZ are expected to be in Ashburton District between 9 June and 3 August 2017.

For more information about the work, visit the Statistics NZ website or call 0800 111 102.
