Snow warnings for Ashburton District, road closures possible

Snow warnings are in place for the Mid-Canterbury area, with heavy snow possible from late Tuesday afternoon through to Thursday.

Ashburton District Council is advising residents and visitors to prepare for one of the biggest snowstorms in recent years. Make sure you have enough non-perishable food and water for several days. Have blankets at the ready or a log fire with plenty of wood to keep you warm and dry in the event of power outages. Fill gas bottles if you have gas heaters. Keep an eye out for your neighbours, especially those who are vulnerable or elderly.

In the next few days, there may be road closures in the district, particularly in the foothills including the Ashburton Gorge Road, which has been affected in previous snowstorms.

For information about road closures and any other issues related to the snow, listen to the radio or check the Council's website or Facebook page.
