Are you eligible for a Rates Rebate?

Ashburton District Council is reminding residents to check their eligibility for the Rates Rebate Scheme to help save money, ahead of the December instalment of rate payments.

Council Community Relations Manager Vincie Billante says the scheme is in place to subsidise low-income homeowners and can save residents a considerable sum of money on their rates.

“Council understands that some families and individuals on a lower income struggle to pay their rates. An eligible ratepayer for the scheme could save up to $610, and that can make a lot of difference to households.”

Residents with an income of less than $33,000, who live at the address they pay rates for and have their name on Council’s rating information database may be eligible for the Rebate Scheme.

Residents can check their eligibility by visiting www.ratesrebates.govt.nz or contacting Council on 03 307 7700.

Applications for the 2016/17 Rates Rebate Scheme close 30 June 2017.
