Rakaia Makes Its Mark on Stamp

The Rakaia Salmon made its debut on a New Zealand Post stamp this month with the launch of their latest Kiwi themed release, 'Legendary Landmarks'.

Rakaia is featured along with 17 other landmarks in the country, chosen from a list of 30 unique towns in New Zealand.

Mayor Angus McKay says this is a celebration for Rakaia as it has long been known for its pristine fishing spots for salmon and trout.

"Rakaia is the salmon capital of New Zealand and people from all over visit our town between October and April to fish at the river mouth each year," he said.

"We have one of the best fishing spots for salmon and trout in the country and our annual Rakaia Fishing Competition attracts anglers from all over the world," said Mr McKay.

The 18 80¢ 'Legendary Landmarks' stamps will be sold together as one sheet. Other landmarks included in this issue are Taupo, Paeroa, Te Puke and Ohakune.

The stamps are available from the New Zealand Post website.
