New option for online payments now available

A new payment option is now available for people who wish to pay their Council rates, building application, animal charges and infringement fees online, without the need for a credit or debit card.

Ashburton District Council is pleased to offer Account2Account, an online service that allows people to make secure payments directly from their bank account on the Council website in real time.

Information Systems Manager Gordon Tupper says the new service will be particularly useful for businesses or people who don’t use debit or credit cards.

“As the way people prefer to go about their everyday business has continued to change, online services have evolved too to meet those demands. Account2Account is an easy and straightforward way to pay for a range of Council activities or services, all in one place from the convenience of your home computer or smartphone.

“Simply head to the Council website at ashburtondc.govt.nz and click on the activity you wish to carry out, such as re-registering your dog or paying a rates bill, follow the prompts and you’ll be able to select Account2Account as a payment option. All you need is your bank account details.”

Account2Account is supported by ANZ, ASB, BNZ, Kiwibank, TSB and Westpac banks. Customers with other banks will not be able to use Account2Account.

Until now, customers could pay online, however this required a credit or debit card to finalise the payment. An internet bank transfer is also an option, but this requires paying from a different site, rather than conveniently from within the Council website. These options are still available, as well as visiting the Council office, direct debit and paying by post.
