The one hour of free parking along East Street will continue past its trial end-date in October this year, allowing time for Council to consider results and make a decision on a course of action for CBD parking.
Ashburton District Council voted to keep the free parking in place until a formal decision could be made on the trial at the Environmental Services Committee meeting today.
"This decision simply irons out what will happen once the free parking trial concludes in October, before Council is then able to discuss the results and make further decisions," Environmental Services Group Manager Jane Donaldson says.
"Council has not made any decision about the future of parking in the CBD at this stage."
Council approved a year trial of one hour free parking along East Street at the August Council meeting last year. The trial will conclude in mid-October 2017.
