Ashburton District Council will begin demolishing the villa it owns on the current Council administration site tomorrow afternoon.
The house, which is located in the staff carpark behind the Council office building on Havelock Street, will be demolished between 5.30pm and 9.00pm, before the resulting rubble is taken away on Thursday and Friday. The building does not contain asbestos.
A temporary building will be constructed on the site, which will act as the Civil Defence headquarters. The specifications of this building will be reported to the Finance & Business Support Committee of Council on 30 November.
Greg Donaldson Contracting will carry out the demolition.
