Council requires information about demolished buildings

With building regulations no longer requiring a consent for the demolition of free-standing buildings three stories or under, Council has gaps in its information for rating purposes.

 Rates notices will be prepared for the new financial rating year that commences on 1 July. However, buildings that fall under the Building Act exemptions may still generate an improvement rates charge if Council is not made aware that it has been demolished.

 "Council wants to ensure its records are up to date to save building owners receiving incorrect rates notices for buildings they have demolished" says Sandy Hogg, Finance Manager. "We are asking that building owners let us know by the end of May of any buildings no longer on their property so we don't inadvertently send out the wrong notices with improvement rates included." 

 Property owners will still be liable for other rate charges on sites where buildings have been demolished.
