Council awards waste collection contract

Ashburton District Council has awarded a seven year solid waste services contract to EnviroWaste Services Limited at the Council meeting on Thursday 15 December.

The contractor will be responsible for the district’s kerbside collection, recycling, residual waste and operation of the resource recovery parks, as well as the introduction of the wheelie bin service in September 2017.

“Council has been working hard to ensure we are delivering the best waste recovery service we can for the community,” Service Delivery Chairman Councillor Stuart Wilson says.

“The awarding of this contract involves one of the biggest changes to our kerbside collection system and it was critical that we secure a contractor who could effectively and efficiently meet the demands of a wheelie bin service, as well our other waste recovery services.”

“This contract came in at a very competitive cost for ratepayers and we are looking forward to seeing the service rolled out,” he adds.

Details on the implementation of the wheelie bin service will be made available in 2017.

Tendering for the solid waste services contract went out on 12 August 2016 and closed 16 September 2016.
