A shortlist of location options for a new Ashburton District Council Administration and Library Facility was approved at an extraordinary meeting of Council today.
The options were drawn up by Opus Architecture which is undertaking the feasibility study on behalf of the Council.
The shortlisted options are:
A new extension to the existing Administration building to accommodate the administration and library functions, with refurbishment of the existing Administration building;
A new administration and library building constructed on Council’s existing administration building site;
A new administration and library building constructed on part of the Eastfields Development site;
A new administration and library building constructed on the Ashburton Methodist Church site;
A new administration and library building constructed on the old Polytechnic site bounded by Cass and Cameron Street.
A recommendation to add an option to investigate retaining the library on the existing site was also passed at today’s Council meeting. . Council is still to consider another option of a new library building and a new administration building located on separate sites close to the CBD, and this will be decided later this month.
Further details on these sites and the reasons for their selection can be found in the Opus Report. Dates for phase two of the process, which will involve a more detailed public consultation on the options, will be announced soon.
