Ashburton District's weed spraying programme underway

Ashburton District Council is working to reduce the number of weeds growing in public spaces throughout the district under the spring weed control programme.

Council’s contractor, Fulton Hogan began spraying weeds along roadside kerb and channels, traffic islands and median strips in towns around the district last week and will continue working for the next few weeks.

Service Delivery Group Manager Neil McCann says the combined spring showers and warmer weather has encouraged the rapid growth in weeds during the last month.

“Fulton Hogan completed the last round of spraying a few months ago, but with summer now almost upon us, there is a lot of work to be done to keep the weeds under control. This programme will help ensure the district looks clean and kept well into summer.”

Mr McCann says if people are concerned and would prefer the contractor does not spray outside their property, that they please let Council know at info@adc.govt.nz and the contractor will be notified.
