Ashburton's new Art Gallery and Heritage Centre will open in February next year as a result of important interior details still being finalised.
Although staff have been establishing themselves in the impressive new building for the past several weeks, Mayor McKay says the delicate process of moving exhibition items from the former premises is still happening, as well as finalising other aspects of the upstairs indoor space.
"Everyone involved wants to make sure the new Art Gallery and Heritage Centre is absolutely spot on before we open the doors to the public," says Mayor McKay.
"To open this important asset before it is 100 per cent set to go would not be doing it any justice.
"February will allow heritage centre and gallery staff the time to get everything ready for the grand opening.
"We are also in the process of securing quite a high profile guest to officially open the building.
"Once that is all set in stone, we will announce the opening date," he says.
