Fire Control Measures
LIFTING OF FIRE RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that the previously advertised Restricted Fire Season, in that part of the Rakaia Gorge and
Ashburton
Lakes areas to the Main Divide, for which the Ashburton District Council is the Rural Fire Authority, has been lifted as from midnight Wednesday 6 May 2009. An Open Fire Season will be in place from that time until further notice
Please note a Restricted Fire Season is still in place for all crown land and it is still necessary to obtain a fire permit from the Department of Conservation for any fires lit on, or within one kilometre of any other crown land.
People should be advised that there is still a duty of care when conducting any burning in the open air, and due attention should be given to weather conditions, adequacy of fire breaks, and the patrolling/supervision of fires until completely out, and it is requested that fires not be lit after dark.
People should also be advised that the legal liability for suppression costs associated with uncontrolled fires lie with the person lighting the fire.
