Rates help pay for the services and facilities Council provides for our community. Around half of Council’s annual income comes from rates.
The remainder of Council’s funding requirement each year comes from fees and charges, government subsidies, Council’s reserves and investment income.

Ashburton District Council also collects rates on behalf of Environment Canterbury (ECan). ECan determines their own rate levels and policies.
