This year's theme is "Quit Now, It's About Whanau."
The Annual Residents Survey 2011 results show that the Ashburton District community is both aware, and supportive, of the Smokefree Playgrounds and Sportsfields Policy. Of the 400 residents surveyed, 80% were aware of the policy.
The overwhelming majority of residents also supported smokefree outdoor areas in childrens playgrounds, sports fields, courts, parks and reserves.
Ashburton District Council revised its Smokefree Playgrounds and Sportsfields Policy on 14 April 2011 to include the Ashburton Skate Park.
The policy was launched on Queens Birthday weekend with a Smokefree Skate Jam run by Cheapskates Skate Skool. Prizes, competitions, demonstrations and a live graffiti artist attracted many interested young people, including 26 who participated in the best trick competitions.
