Ashburton District Physical Activity Strategy

Ashburton District Council has collaborated with key organisations involved in physical activity within the District to develop a Physical Activity Strategy. Partner organisations are Sport Mid Canterbury, the Canterbury District Health Board, the Rural Canterbury Primary Health Organisation, the Mid Canterbury School Principals Assn. and Sport and Recreation New Zealand (SPARC). A wide range of organisations involved in sport and recreation in Ashburton District contributed to the development of the Strategy.

The Strategy provides an assessment of physical activity in the District, identifies ways to enhance physical activity opportunities in the District, and provides actions to implement the findings of the Strategy. The Strategy will inform Council planning and decision making in the future and provides a framework for organisations in the District to work together to achieve the goals identified.

The full Strategy document and implementation plan are available to be downloaded here.
