The camp is leased to Rakaia Gorge Camping. Contact 03 302 9353.
The camp is very popular with fishermen and is an ideal stop for travellers on the Inland Scenic Route. Nearest shopping is at Methven.
The camp area affords magnificent views over the braided river.

RESERVE AREAS
Council maintains a number of reserves where “freedom camping” is permitted.
At Rakaia Huts accessed off Acton Road, some sites are available at “donation rate levels”.Camping is permitted overnight but not long term.Toilet facilities only are provided.
A similar situation exists at Hakatere (lower level). Both these areas afford the visitor the experience of the river mouth environment.
At Taylors Stream, Bowyers Stream and Hinds River at Mayfield, all on the Inland Scenic Route, travellers who are primarily self-contained may camp overnight. Each of these locations are adjacent to the highway. Toilet facilities are provided at Taylors Stream.
