The Youth Council was formed the Year 2000 as a result of a Youth Forum held by the Council looking for ways to make Ashburton a better place for young people to live.
 

The Youth Council provide a forum where the views of young people are voiced and heard, work with Council staff and elected members to initiate and support programmes and act as a consultative link between young people and the Council. 

They also participate in the planning of youth focused and intergenerational events.

WHO ARE THE YOUTH COUNCIL? Each year applications of interest are called for from people between the age of 15 and 25 to be part of the Youth Council.
